It’s already here – the 2012 Los Padres Officials Baseball Unit will be holding their first meeting on Monday, February 6th in the Mission Prep cafeteria at 6:30pm sharp. Bring your checkbooks (or cash) in the amount of $65 for your dues and instructional materials! Assignment Fees will be handled separately by John Iribarren.

Make sure you bring: a) signed copy of the Official’s Code of Ethics with you (download from the left hand column); b) A completed (top & bottom sections) Sign Up Sheet (download from the Unit General Information).

For those of you that are already on the Arbiter it’s time to double check your personal information to insure it’s updated. This shouldn’t be a problem for football, volleyball or basketball officials – but you one sport only (baseball) officials need to insure your info is good to go before you start receiving assignments! Schools also use this info to process your checks!! New members will not have access until your information has been administered in the Arbiter system.

It’s also time to get out your equipment, take inventory on what you have and what you are going to need and then make notes on what you want to be investing in for the upcoming season. Make sure you read all your emails as you receive them – we try to keep you informed of referee/umpire websites that offer discounted uniform or equipment items. We also try to get at least one vendor to stop by one of our earlier meetings so that you can purchase some items on site. In either case, if you need some assistance in deciding what may be appropriate for you, feel free to contact any board member or veteran official. They are your best source for baseball related information on any topic!

Double check your Liability Insurance cards to insure you are current! Those of you that are two sport officials, especially football & basketball, should already have an active policy. NASO or NFHS are the two most recognized insurance companies for sports officials. First year officials need to understand this insurance coverage is to protect you from law suits while you’re performing your duties on the field. Not health coverage, like Blue Cross, etc. If you’re a one sport, high school baseball, official - - then check your coverage dates and verify you are up to date.

President

We’re looking forward to a great season. There are some changes to our leagues in regards to number of teams participating and very few changes to the rules, mostly just clarifications to current rules. With all the uniform changes we’ve had the last two years, make sure you check your gear and make sure it’s up to date. Since we are considered one of the better units in southern California, let’s look like it on the fields too! Don Snyder

Instructional Chair

There is going to be a couple of changes to our training program this year. We’re going to hold a mandatory clinic that should prove to be beneficial to everyone. We held a shorter version this past spring and it was well received. In this clinic we will cover one man as well as the two man mechanics in the classroom, with field instruction immediately following. And if you’re good – we may just throw in a free lunch! We are also getting new manuals all around this year. Mel Gatson

Assigner

The Arbiter system is working well and this year ALL games will be posted. You must be aware that schools do not always get us their schedules in a timely manner, especially the spring break tournaments, so you have to be on top of your emails daily as the season progresses. Sometimes we don’t have the time to wait for a response and will call you direct for assignment changes or additions but they will be posted after confirmations. Bring your checkbooks and get ready for the 2012 season! John Iribarren

Gentlemen;

As presented to us at our Spring CBUA Executive Council Meeting on January 29 th, the C.B.U.A. and Cliff Keen Athletic have come into an agreement and are implementing a new program for our use. We, as sports officials, will have direct access to all their officiating gear at special wholesale pricing. There is no obligation on our part to participate at any level, nor minimum or maximum amounts of purchases.

It’s quite simple to use. Go directly to Cliff Keen’s website ( http://cliffkeen.com/ ), click on the officials drop down menu and go to baseball. Find the products you want, fill out the necessary mailing & shipping info, and then when you see the Coupon Code box enter: cahsbs120 Your savings will automatically be readjusted towards your final products total. (I even tested it to insure it works!)

If you choose not to purchase – just closed out the window and you’re good to go. It should also be noted that the CBUA will receive a 5% rebate check from any/all net purchases our CIF unit members make. If you need further information you can contact Gary Peterson at garypeterson@cliffkeen.com or Bobby Richards at bobby@cliffkeen.com.

Again – this is a partnership made by CBUA & Cliff Keen for our benefit and we are under no obligation to participate, but the benefits from our purchases helps keep our costs down and also supports us through the CBUA.
